BJP national secretary Capt Abhimanyu has said that BJP would take the agitation seeking the resignation of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the ‘coalgate’ scam to the streets, even if the government agreed to cancel the allocation of all the 142 coal blocks. He told a news conference here on Thursday that BJP was raising three specific demands on this issue. The first demand is that Prime Minister must resign owning responsibility for the scam as he had been in charge of the Coal Ministry.
All the 142 coal blocks allocated should be cancelled. A high-level probe should be conducted to expose all those responsible for the largest scam India had ever witnessed, he said.
The plan of action for further strengthening the agitation would be decided before the BJP national executive committee meeting scheduled for September 26 and 27, he said. The image of the country had been seriously tarnished before the world. The UPA Government had lost the moral right to continue in office, he said.
Asked whether the BJP had also not been trying to privatise natural resources, he said his party was not opposing the privatisation but the procedural lapses that led to the scam.
