Bangalore: Sharief (name changed), father of a 13-year-old rape victim, who was stabbed by four men at Ramachandrapuram in Srirampura police station limits on Sunday, is recovering. Dr Gurushankar, medical superintendent of Victoria Hospital, told Express, “Sharief has suffered head injuries and stab wounds at two places on his back. Doctors have sutured his scalp. He is out of danger. The victim got himself discharged from the hospital against medical advice.”

Meanwhile, J D Srinivas and A D Ramanand, Sharief’s advocates, told Express that he was warned by the local police a few days ago to shift the house to some other place as they feared attack by some persons. However, the victim continued to stay in the same house as two police constables had been posted for his security round the clock. On Sunday, the policemen on security duty went out for lunch, but never turned up.

When Sharief was walking back to his house after closing his shop, four men came from behind and stabbed him in his back and also hit him on his head. When he raised an alarm, his wife came to the spot and saw the attackers fleeing, they added. According to the advocates, local leaders were exerting pressure on Sharief to marry off his daughter to the alleged rapist. But he had refused to do so.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) H S Revanna told Express that a case had been registered against Akram, Mujibullah and two others, all Sharief’s neighbours. “The victim had borrowed some money from the accused for business, but he failed to repay it. We have been providing security to Sharief for many days. But the miscreants attacked him when the policemen had taken a tea break,” he stated.
