Doha: Anju Bobby George came up with a determined last leap to overtake her Kazakhstan rival Olga Rypakova and land the silver medal in the women's long jump event at the Asian Games in Doha on Sunday.

Holder Anju reserved her best jump for her last effort, a leap of 6.52 metres, that piloted her past Olga whose best effort till then was 6.49 metres with one jump to go.

But in the ding-dong battle for second place, Olga came out second-best with a nervous final jump of 6.09 m and settled for the bronze medal.

Japan's Ikeda Kumiko won the gold with a leap of 6.81m.

Anju's silver boosted India's medal haul on the tenth day to three – another silver in the women's 400 m (Manjeet Kaur) and bronze plucked by middleweight (75 kg) boxer Vijender.

India stood seventh in the medal standings with a tally of 6 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze.

The day, that began on a disastrous note for India with the exit from medal contention of the men's hockey team for the first time in Games history, ended on a high note with Anju's sliver.
