HYDERABAD: AP students did an encore at the IITJoint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) cornering a record number of ranks, including the top rank, in the exam this year. The state bagged six ranks among top 10 and nearly 40 ranks in the top 100.I Prithvi Tej, a student from Hyderabad bagged the all-India top rank in the open category while V Shaimak Reddy secured third rank, Saikiran Burle (fourth rank), Kunal Chawla (sixth rank), T Bhargav Reddy (eighth rank) and J Varun (ninth rank).The students reaped a rich harvest of ranks, repeating the feat of their seniors last year. This is said to be the best performance by any state in the examination. As many as 65,000 students appeared for IIT entrance test from the state.The state also saw two friends bagging the first rank in the ST category and the sixth rank in the OBC category.Having been friends for two years and studied together to crack the test, Rama Krishna Banoth and Bairaboina Varun are on their way to enter the portals of IIT. Both of them also got ranks 177 and 56 in the general category.But while all the other toppers in the state are busy celebrating their victory, the two friends are calm and are vying for their ultimate goal of becoming civil servants.Rama Krishna (17), born in a tribal hamlet of Hanayatanda of Irlapudi mandal in Khammam district says: “I am not content with securing the first rank in IIT-JEE. I now want to focus on preparation for the Civil Service examinations.” He wants to opt for computer science at IIT-Bombay.“I want to pursue computer science since the manageable syllabus will help me dedicate more time to prepare for the Civils,” the topper said. Similarly, Varun is also planning to accompany his friend to IIT-Bombay. “It will help us prepare together again for the Civil Services exams,” said the boy hailing from Torrur village in Warangal district.
