Srinagar: Even days after the results of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections were declared, hectic parleys over government formation in the state are still underway.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Thursday met Governor NN Vohra and said that discussions on government formation are on. "The BJP is in no hurry. We aim to form a stable government in the state," BJP state party president Jugal Kishore said after his meeting with the Governor.

The meeting comes a day after People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti met Vohra and gave an indication of a possible alliance with the BJP. Praising former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his work, Mehbooba said that he did a lot for the state during his tenure at the Centre.

She also added that Kashmir is a "challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi adding that "the unfinished work of former PM Vajpayee must be taken forward." Maintaining that PDP is in no hurry to form the government, she claimed that they have the support of 55 MLAs.

A possibility of several alliances is doing the rounds. PDP patriarch Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is said to be keen on the formation of a 'grand alliance' in the state involving the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP is believed to be open to the idea, the Congress is against it.

The PDP won 28 seats and the BJP came close second with 25 seats. The Congress won 12 seats and the National Conference bagged 15 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
