Afzal issue to hang fire till polls: Sources | What Afzal said
File on Afzal is still moving between Home Ministry and Delhi govt.

New Delhi: While Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru has tried to provoke both the Congress and the BJP, it's clear the UPA government is going to defer its decision on whether he should be hanged or not at least till the elections.

CNN-IBN has learnt the file on Afzal is still moving between the Home Ministry and Delhi government. Afzal's clemency petition to the President was sent back to the Home Ministry last year.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil has been saying it takes a long time to arrrive at these decisions. Afzal Guru has dared Opposition Leader L K Advani to hang him if he becomes Prime Minister.

Speaking out for the first time since his conviction in 2004, he was quoted as saying by IANS, "I don't think the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government can ever reach a decision. The Congress party has two mouths and is playing a double game. I really wish L K Advani becomes India's next prime minister as he is the only one who can take a decision and hang me. At least my pain and daily suffering would ease then."
