Goa: The impact of the Russian invasion of Crimea is being felt in the distant shores of Goa. Many Russian businessmen who are running various benami businesses in Goa are now planning to shift their base to Crimea, a peninsula surrounded by the Black Sea.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to turn Crimea into one of the biggest gambling dens in the World. According to Russian government sources, Crimea will be competing with other gambling centres like Macau in the next few years.

Crimea, a Russian dominated area was a part of Ukraine till last month. The Russians have taken over the peninsula and introducing the Russian system there.

The best weather, blue sea, beautiful beaches and proximity to Europe are attracting the Russians in Goa to shift their base to Crimea. According to sources, there are more than 15,000-20,000 Russians living in Goa. They allegedly run real estate to drug business and the locals are demanding a strict action against them.

A Russian tour operator Michael Arkady said that he was planning to shift his business to Crimea due to hostile atmosphere in Goa.

There is also a direct flight between Moscow and Goa.

According to local reports Russian deluge continues unabated in Goa, with the soon-to-be-implemented visa on arrival (VoA) for the market hailed as a big advantage for the beach destination.

119,447 Russians arrived between October 2013 and January 2014 alone, putting it on track to surpass last year's 157,605 visitors between October 2012 and March 2013.
