CHENNAI: Perhaps the first of its kind in the city, the launch of ‘The Cupcake Company’, located on St Mary’s Road, Alwarpet on Sunday had a number of Chennai’s best dressed drop by for a sweet treat. For owner, Shitija Nahata, it’s been a busy year of bulk home orders and creative experiments, all with cupcakes. “I know a lot of people who do home orders, but this is the first bakery in city, exclusively for cupcakes on the go,” she says.From mix and match flavours such as Rum ‘N’ Coke to novelty designs on top, that range from a pretty butterfly to your favourite Superhero, she does it all. “My husband is a huge fan of Superman, he has just about every collector’s item there is available,” she explains, as to how the craze for superhero-cupcakes came about.Although, the ‘Super’ category will have to be placed on special order, as the logos have to be specially handcrafted, glasses of wine or cranberry juice (for the teetotaler) made the rounds, alongside an array of colourful mini-cuppie tasters. These ranged from the basic Plain Jane (Moist Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Icing) to Chip ‘N’ Dale (a sinful chocolate ganache treat) to the must try Red Velvet topped with Cream Cheese Icing.
