New Delhi: It is the 45th anniversary of the gory 1971 war between India and Pakistan which led to the liberation of Bangladesh.
On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with the three service chiefs paid tribute to the martyrs of the war at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate on Tuesday morning.
Speaking at the occasion, the Defence Minister said that India was better prepared today to face terror and intrusion threats. "I think we are improving now and definitely much better than probably what we were earlier. Ultimately that comes with situation.. each situation differs but I think we are quite well prepared," Parrikar said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to the martyrs on Twitter wherein he said, "On Vijay Diwas, we remember sacrifices & valour of our Armed Forces who fought courageously in 1971. We are extremely proud of them."
