Gang murders VCK man in Puducherry
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google News Tension pre­vailed in the Dubrayapet area following the murder of a local unit activist of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) by a gang here on Thursday night. Manavalan (32), the VCK functionary, was attacked with knives by a gang near a tea­shop at Sonampalaym. Ac­cording to police, Manavalan, a Puducherry Municipality workshop driver who got mar­ried three months ago, died on the spot. He had returned home after a pilgrimage to Velankanni on Thursday morning. The police said the gang members later went to Ma­navalan’s house in Dubraya­pet and attacked one of his relatives, Nagamuthu (48). He was admitted to GH. Police suspected previous enmity as the cause behind Manavalan’s death. Odians­alai police registered a case against 14 persons, including Rajasekar of Vampakeerapa­layam and Kulla Saravanan. Both the accused had cases pending against them. Fur­ther investigations were on. Meanwhile the VCK activ­ists staged a road blockade near the Saraswathi Kalyana Mandapam, close to the Odi­ansalai Police Station, here on Friday morning. They demon­strators demanded the arrest of the culprits in the case. Po­lice held talks with the agita­tors following which the blockade was withdrawn. AIADMK legislator of the Up­palam constituency visited the protesting VCK activists. He also condemned the murder. Police pickets had been posted at Dubrayapet area to avoid any further escalation in tension. The UT police had been in the face of a storm af­ter the recent bomb attack that killed a history sheeter, Jegan. In another bomb at­tack, a child received injuries. Following the incidents, a se­ries of raids were conducted for tracking down anti-social elements but the raids did not yield substantial results first published:September 01, 2012, 08:10 ISTlast updated:September 01, 2012, 08:10 IST
