CHITTOOR: In a tragic incident, four schoolchildren drowned in Devala Cheruvu on MadanapallePunganoor bypass road in Madanapalle rural mandal on Saturday evening.
The incident came to light on Sunday when the school management and their parents started searching for the missing children. Madanapalle Rural circle inspector Vamsidhar Goud said Karthik (11), Illiyas (12), Javeed (12), and Nawaz (13), all students of Arogyamatha High School, were staying in the school hostel on Punganoor road. They went to Devala Cheruvu last evening for a swim after the end of school hours.

When the quartet did not return to the hostel till late in the evening, the hostel authorities got worried and informed the matter to the school management. Their parents who came to know about it, also started searching for the missing boys.

The bicycles of Karthik and his friends were found at the tank. When the tank was searched, the bodies of the four boys were found deep in the water with their feet stuck in the mud.

Karthik of Nimmala Cheruvu was studying sixth class, while his friends Illiyas of Bathinikonda, Javeed and Nawaz of Eswaramma Colony in Madanapalle were seventh class students. The parents of all the four boys are daily wage earners.
