Jammu: More than 250 displaced Kashmiri Pandits living in migrant camps in the city were given homes to call their own, ahead of their auspicious Shivratri festival on Sunday.

Keys to 267 newly-built two-room flats were handed over to them at a small function at Muthi migrant camp after police verification, Relief Commissioner Vinood Kaul told reporters.

The government has made a policy not to allot flats to any migrant who has a house in Jammu and living in it, as over 154 such families were detected during CID verification.

About 1025 two-room sets were constructed for allotment to Kashmir migrants living in different camps in Jammu and Udhampur district, he said.

A list was prepared about the migrant camp dwellers and CID was asked to verify about the present status of the camp dwellers.
