CHENNAI: A cell phone shop owner was arrested over the murder of a homosexual school teacher at Palavanthangal on Wednesday. The breakthrough for the police came within seven hours after the bruised body of M Ramasundaramani (31) was found at his ground floor house on College Road, Palavanthangal on Wednesday. A native of Ramanathapuram, the victim worked as a teacher in a private school in Royapuram, police said. Around 9 am, Rafiq, who had rented out the front portion for his tailoring unit, informed building owner R Jabar Chand (68) about a bad odour emanating from the teacher’s house, located in the rear end. Chand found the front door locked. With the help of his neighbours, Chand broke the lock and, on going inside, found Ramasundaramani’s body with cuts on the head and body. “The victim had been smashed on the head with a bottle and stabbed,” a police officer said. Acting on a complaint lodged by Chand, a case of murder was registered by the Palavanthangal police. Probe by three special police teams showed that Ramasundaramani had been living with his friends in the house. Six months ago, his friends got married, leaving him alone in the house. Inquiry revealed that Ramasundaramani’s friend Raja had paid a visit to the house on Monday and had found the teacher in an inebriated condition. Further, police learnt that it was S Muthukumar (26), owner of the nearby ‘Joy Cell City’ shop, who had bought drinks and food him around 4 pm. Their suspicions were aroused when they saw Muthukumar’s hand covered with bruises. Grilled, Muthukumar spilled the beans. He said he went back to the house a second time around 10.30 pm. Ramasundaramani took him to his room and compelled him to indulge in sex. In a fit of rage, Muthukumar took a liquor bottle and smashed it on the teacher’s head and then stabbed him. Later, he washed his hands, locked the front door and went to his grandmother’s house in Chromepet. He was arrested around 4 pm.
