The Gunners misfire; Red Devils top group
Sevilla beat Arsenal 3-1, Manchester United register a thrilling 2-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon.

New Delhi: Sevilla beat Arsenal to secure their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League. Arsenal got off to a perfect start as they took the lead in the 11th minute when striker Eduardo da Silva put it past the goalkeeper. Sevilla hit back equalising with a thundering strike from midfielder Kei-ta midway through the half. Luis Fabiano then got into the act as he stole a neat header just 11 minutes before the first break. Frederic Kanoute then wrapped up the match with a penalty two minutes from time. 3-1 Sevilla, ending the Gunners unbeaten run this season.

Rivals Manchester United beat Sporting Lisbon in a thrilling encounter to top Group F in the Champions League. It was the visitors at the Old Trafford who grabbed the lead in the 21 minute when a strike from defender Abel flew past the goalkeeper. The ‘Red Devils’ looked out of sorts through the first half. Ferguson sent in both Tevez and Ryan Giggs and the results followed Carlos Tavez equallised within 16 minutes. The dead lock was broken as the game headed into injury time. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunner to give Manchester United a 2-1 win over his former club Sporting lisbon.

In another match Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by French champions Lyon. Visitors Barca took just three minutes to stamp their authority in the match as Andres Iniesta put it past the net. But the hosts hit back four minutes later when Juninho's free kick bounced in front of keeper Victor Valdes and into the net. The second half saw Lionel Messi give the catalans the lead in the 58th minute through a spot kick. The 79th minute saw another spot kick being converted and this time it was Juninho who got his second of the night to secure a draw against Frank Rijkaard's side.
