Rome: Revamped Juventus lost to Bari 1-0 in its Serie-A opener on Sunday, with Massimo Donati scoring the winner in the 43rd minute.
Juventus acquired eight new players in the off-season, hired new coach Luigi Delneri and changed presidents — from Jean-Claude Blanc to Andrea Agnelli. Despite the changes, the performance against Bari didn't appear far from how the Turin club played last season, when it struggled to a seventh-place finish.
Having come on midway through the first half for injured Alessandro Gazzi, Donati scored with a powerful shot from beyond the area shortly before halftime.
Juventus' best chances came in the final minutes, when it scrambled for a draw. Fabio Quagliarella sent a bouncing shot wide in the 90th and Giorgio Chiellini headed high three minutes into added time.
"We've got a lot of work to do," Delneri said. "We don't know each other that well."
Six more games were scheduled for later on Sunday.
