Milan: AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that he does not feel his job is at risk after the Rossoneri were beaten 2-1 by Fiorentina at San Siro on Saturday.
A recent report suggested that club president Silvio Berlusconi is ready to give the manager the sack if he fails to guide the team to their second consecutive Serie A title.
Despite the fact that the Rossoneri have dropped to second spot in the table following Saturday's results, Allegri does not believe he could be on his way out.
"I absolutely don’t feel that my job is at risk," Allegri stated. "The club will make their evaluations at the end of the season, but I prefer to focus on the task at hand."
AC Milan will be eager to return to winning ways on Tuesday when they travel to Chievo.
Meanwhile, Allegri remained upbeat about his team's Scudetto chances following the last-minute defeat at the hands of Fiorentina, although he admitted that the result had thrown the Serie A title race wide open.
The previous leaders saw a two-point advantage at the summit evaporate, as Amauri's 89th minute strike was made even worse thanks to Juventus, who overcame Palermo 2-0 away from home to overtake their rivals at the top.
"We have to accept this result, in the knowledge that there are still lots of games remaining and everything remains wide open. It has not been a great week, but we have to bounce back because we still have everything to play for," the coach told reporters, also referring to the club's midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona.
Milan favourite Antonio Cassano gave the club some good news, as he made an appearance for the first time in five months. Allegri said he expected the former Sampdoria man to keep improving as he picked up more minutes on the pitch.
"Today [Antonio] played a quarter-hour, it will take time because he is lacking match fitness but he is training and progressing very well," he said.
Milan now trail Juventus by one point at the top of Serie A, with seven games remaining.
