Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season was a shocker for fans. Barcelona coach Xavi also confirmed that he will step down from his role following the conclusion of the ongoing season. It has now been learnt that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be the third big name to leave the side at the end of the season.
A report published by Sport claimed that Arteta has told people close to him that he is contemplating a move to end his managerial stint with the Gunners once the current campaign gets over. Sky Sports, however, has now claimed that the Spaniard has no plans to leave Arsenal at the end of this season.
Mikel Arteta’s current contract with Arsenal is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Multiple media reports have linked Arteta to a managerial role at Barcelona. Xavi, the current head coach of Barcelona, had announced his decision to step down after the Catalan giants lost 5-3 at home to Villarreal in La Liga.
“I want to announce that on June 30 I will no longer continue as the coach at Barca. I think the situation needs to change course, and as a culer [Barcelona fan], I cannot allow the current situation,” Xavi said, as per Sky Sports.
“And mostly as a cul, thinking about the club and about the players as well, I think they will feel more free, they will be calmer. I think we play with too much tension. It’s for the benefit of the board, of the club. As a cul, as a club person, I believe the best thing is to leave on June 30. Of course, I will give all I have in the four months that are left,” he added.
The defeat at the hands of Villarreal left Barcelona at the fourth spot in the La Liga standings. Barcelona are currently 11 points behind table toppers Girona. Xavi is now set to leave Barcelona after less than three years, having been appointed as the manager of the side back in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta took up his maiden senior managerial role having replaced Unai Emery at Arsenal. Arteta has so far won 124 of his 210 matches as the Arsenal boss. Arsenal are currently placed at the third spot in the Premier League standings.
