Ancelotti confident Ronaldo will stay at Madrid
A new deal for Ronaldo appears to be on the cards, despite the player himself playing down any rumours earlier in the week.

Madrid: Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is confident that star player Cristiano Ronaldo will renew his contract with the club when the team returns to Spain.

Madrid are currently in Miami, Florida to face Chelsea, now coached by former coach Jose Mourinho, while Ronaldo's continuity, as well as the possible signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham, continue to occupy the Real Madrid agenda.

A new deal for Ronaldo appears to be on the cards, despite the player himself playing down any rumours earlier in the week, reports Xinhua.

Sports paper Marca claimed on Monday that a deal had already been agreed to keep Ronaldo at the club for a further five years and when asked about Ronaldo's future, Ancelotti was equally confident.

"I don't know when the renewal will take place as it is a question that doesn't correspond to me, but what I can say is that Ronaldo will remain in Real Madrid and he will extend his contract," said the Italian.

"It is a question between the club and the players and a lot of work has been carried out in the past few days. He wants to stay and the club want him to stay, so I don't think there will be any problems when it comes to reaching an agreement," highlighted the Real Madrid coach, who preferred not to discuss Bale's arriving for a probably world record fee of around 100 million euros.

"I am not speaking about Bale, I would not like a coach (Tottenham boss, Andre Villas Boas) to be annoyed, so I would prefer to say nothing. I have a very good team and I am very content with the squad that I have," he continued.

The friendly game against Chelsea has been billed as revenge against Mourinho, but Ancelotti reminded those present that he had his own history with Chelsea, a team he coached to the Barclays Premier League and FA Cup titles in his first of two seasons at the London club.

"I was there for two years and I have a good relationship with the players. We are taking on a team and not just a coach, but we shouldn't forget that it is still a pre-season game," he pointed out.

"it is difficult to compare how we are playing now with how we played when Mourinho was the coach, because we have only been working for a few days. It will be better to make an assessment at the end of the season," said Ancelotti.
