When it comes to global cuisine, Indian recipes are making their mark on the international stage, showcasing the unique and diverse flavours of the country. India’s culinary traditions vary widely from state to state, and the food from every region is renowned throughout India. Chefs are continuously innovating, blending local traditions with international flavours to create new and exciting dishes.
Although pizza originated in Italy, it has been adapted with local cuisines to give a distinct taste and now it is gaining international acclaim.
Indian Pizza Among The World’s Top 100
A testament to this culinary evolution is ‘Pizzeria da Susy’ a restaurant in Gurgaon, which has earned a spot on the global list. Recently, Pizzeria Da Susy ranked 86th in the ‘100 best Pizzerias of 2024′. The Italy-based organisation ’50 Top Pizza Awards’ presented the list at an award ceremony held in Naples on September 4, 2024.
Susanna Di Cosimo, head chef of the restaurant, took to Instagram to make an official announcement about the achievement. “This is an incredible honour for us, and we are deeply grateful to represent India on such a prestigious stage. This recognition is more than just an award. It is a deep source of inspiration that drives us to perfect our craft and aim higher every year,” Susanna, who also goes by Susy, said.
Pizzeria Da Susy’s menu offers customers a variety of pizzas, from traditional Neapolitan classics to innovative creations featuring unique ingredients like spinach, pumpkin and smoked salmon.
Not The First Accolade For Da Susy
This is not the first time Da Susy has been recogonised on a global platform and made India proud. In March, the Gurgaon-based pizza place was ranked 13th among the 50 best pizzerias in Asia-Pacific for 2024.
Top Rankings
In the 2024 global pizzeria rankings, Una Pizza Napoletana from New York took the top spot. Second place was shared by Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria and I Masanielli – Francesco Martucci. Tokyo-based The Pizza Bar was ranked third, followed by Milan’s Comfine in fourth place and London’s Napoli on the Road in fifth.
The Naples-based 50 Top Pizza Awards list had a rigorous evaluation process, with nearly 1,000 anonymous inspectors assessing each pizzeria, rating everything from food quality to the overall atmosphere.
