For youth preparing for government jobs, Indian Railways is always a high priority. Recruitment in the railway sector occurs at various levels, managed by institutions such as the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC). Those applying for a job in the railway should understand the complete recruitment process. It is widely known that government jobs offer numerous benefits, and working in the railway sector comes with additional advantages.
Many candidates who secure government jobs through the sports quota often prefer railway jobs due to their perceived security. Railway jobs are considered quite stable, with employees rarely being terminated unless under very difficult circumstances. Numerous recruitment opportunities in the railway sector employ even 12th-pass youth. If you are preparing for a job in the railways, it is essential to understand all the benefits and the complete recruitment process.
Advantages of Railway Jobs
Job Security: A railway job is considered to be one of the most secure forms of employment. It is not affected by economic recessions, and employees are rarely terminated from their positions. In the unfortunate event of an employee’s death, their spouse, child, or another family member is typically offered the job, ensuring continued support for the family.
Free Accommodation and Travel: A railway job comes with numerous facilities. All railway employees are granted the benefit of free train travel, and if the fare is charged in some instances, it is at a reduced rate. Employees who do not receive railway quarters are provided with a House Rent Allowance (HRA) to cover their housing expenses.
Good Pay: Railway jobs offer competitive salaries. For example, the salary of a Principal Chief Engineer can range between Rs 50-56 lakh per annum. The top 10 per cent of employees earn around Rs 14 lakh, while the top 1 per cent can earn up to Rs 40 lakh annually. Additionally, employees have the benefit of encashment of paid leave, adding to the financial advantages of working in the railway sector.
Free Treatment: The railway department covers the medical expenses of its employees. Employees can receive treatment at railway hospitals. If the required treatment is not available at the railway hospital, the railway department also bears the cost of treatment at external medical facilities.
The Railway Recruitment Board issues notification of vacancies according to the zones. If you want to apply for a job in railways, then for this you have to log in to the zonal or regional website of RRB and fill out the application form for NTPC posts. After filling out the form, upload your photo and signature and make the prescribed payment. After this, the admit card for the written examination will be issued.
Eligible candidates are recruited for RRB NTPC posts in several stages. Typing skill tests are mandatory for recruitment to posts like Junior Account Assistant, Account Clerk and Senior Clerk. In the typing skill test, the candidate has to type at least 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi without the help of any external software.
