Telangana Schools to Remain Closed Today as ABVP Calls for Bandh
The student body has demanded that the state government provide basic amenities in government schools and put a curb on high fees across private schools.

Several schools in Telangana will remain closed today, June 26, as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for a bandh to protest against the rising fees across private schools and poor infrastructure in government schools. This is the second time this month that the student body has called for a bandh.

However, there has been no official announcement asking schools to remain closed today but several schools across Hyderabad have declared a holiday as a precautionary measure and some schools have shifted to online classes for students between classes 5 and 10, the report added.

The student body has demanded that the state government provide basic amenities in government schools and put a curb on high fees across private schools. ABVP said that even though 15 days have passed since the start of schools following summer vacations this year, the books have not been distributed yet, which shows the negligence of the government towards the students. It also demanded that a fee control law be implemented in the state and that proper infrastructure be provided in schools.

The ABVP demanded an immediate resolution of the issues. Apart from that, it also demanded that the vacant posts of DEO and MEO in the state be filled immediately. It suggested taking action against private schools that are running without permits. The student body requested the voluntary closure of schools.

The Telangana government had declared a holiday for Eid-e-Gadir on June 25. With this, the students will have two consecutive days of vacation.

State-run and private schools in Telangana reopened on June 12 after a 48-day summer vacation. According to PTI, state ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives distributed free books and uniforms to the students of government schools. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao distributed books and uniforms to the students of a government high school in Khammam.
