RTE Admissions Under Scrutiny As Fraudulent Applications Surface In Noida Schools
From forging address proofs to income certificates and now caste certificates, the parents are resorting to various illegal ways to secure admission.

The fourth round of admission under the Right To Education (RTE) in Uttar Pradesh is currently underway. The children from the economically weaker sections get admission to private schools. The last date to apply is June 20. The parents are trying every crooked way to get their children admitted to the private schools under RTE. Parents are getting recommendations by manipulating documents. The cases of these actions are coming to light in many reputed schools in Noida.

To admit under RTE, the parents changed the address on the child’s Aadhaar card. Their forgery was caught by the private schools. The culprits tried to change the address on the child’s Aadhaar card but forgot to change the residential address on their own Aadhaar card. Under the Right to Education Act, 25 per cent of the seats in private schools are reserved for needy children. However, many financially capable families try to secure admission for their children through RTE, resulting in the loss of opportunity for economically weaker students. From forging address proofs to income certificates and now caste certificates, the parents are resorting to various illegal ways to secure admission.

Last year, five private schools in Ahmedabad complained that 308 students secured admission on the subsidised seats under the RTE during the last four years based on false documents. Fake income documents or declarations have been submitted by the parents which stated that their annual income is lower than Rs 1.5 lakh. Hence, the education department made a rule of admission only in schools within the limits of the Gram Panchayat and within one kilometre.

According to the RTE rules, children of parents with annual incomes not exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh in urban centres and Rs 1.25 lakh in rural areas are eligible for subsidised seats at private schools under the RTE Act.

The admission process under the RTE Act in 524 schools in Moradabad district is currently underway. So far, the registration and lottery process has been completed in three phases. According to District Basic Education Officer Dr. Ajit Kumar, despite three phases, those parents who have missed registering for admission of their children to private schools can participate in the fourth phase process.
