Royal Challengers Bengaluru stars were left emotional after a memorable turnaround that saw them lifting themselves up from the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings and into the playoffs. On Saturday night, they were up against title holders Chennai Super Kings and produced a thriller of a contest in front of their home fans to sneak past the five-time champions for a top-four spot.
Having set CSK a massive target of 219 to win, RCB then needed to limit their opponents to 200 for an 18-run win which would have taken their net run-rate past the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. They ensured it and then some more with a 27-run triumph surviving a late blitz led by Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.

After Yash Dayal bowled two back-to-back dot deliveries in the final over to seal RCB’s spot in the playoffs, RCB players celebrated with a lot of gusto with the feeling of their dramatic turnaround visible on their faces as they took a lap of the stadium thanking their fans for keeping the faith.
RCB endured the horror of losing six matches in a row that pushed them to the bottom of the pile and severely dented their hopes of a top-four finish midway through the season.
The Faf du Plessis-led side were then staring at a remarkable turnaround that required them to not only win their remaining six matches but also hope for a few favourable results. And they completed the job with aplomb, winning six matches in a row that pushed them to the fourth spot and took them into the playoffs.
RCB have never won IPL in their history having made the final thrice and finishing runners-up on all three occasions.
