WATCH: Lucky Alex Carey Survives as Bails Remain Intact After Contact With Shamar Joseph's Delivery
Aussie wicketkeeper, Alex Carey got lucky with a peach of a delivery from West Indies' Shamar Joseph during the third Test at the Gabba.

Shamar Joseph continues to have a stellar start to his international career with the West Indies as he continues to test the Australian batters. The bowler however happened to miss out on the big wicket of the Aussie keeper, Alex Carey during the second Test at the Gabba.

The young pacer looked to continue with the momentum going in favour of the West Indies as they managed to get five wickets in quick time to put the home side under pressure. During the second ball of the fifteenth over, Joseph who bowled from around the wicket, looked to use the angle against the left-handed Carey. The pacer hit the back of the length delivery and nipped back in, which the batter did not take into account and missed his shot. But he got lucky as the ball which nicked the bail, was unable to dislodge it from its original position.

Carey then went on to bat with an aggressive mindset scoring 65 runs off 49 deliveries to put some runs on the board after which Joseph finally got his man with the shorter delivery just before the break.

What does the law state regarding the ball nicking the bail but not dislodging it from the stumps?

Under section 29.1 of MCC’s Laws of Cricket, “The wicket is broken when at least one bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or one or more stumps is removed from the ground.”

To add to this, section 29.2.1 also states,”The wicket is broken fairly if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground.”

This means that Shamar Joseph’s delivery did not warrant a dismissal and the umpire had made the right call in giving Carey not-out as the Windies pondered to review the decision.

Australia is looking to get closer to levelling the score with opener, Usman Khawaja standing strong with a fifty under his belt. To keep him company the skipper Pat Cummins is also holding his own with a couple of boundaries to keep the pressure off.
