'The Question Should Be Asked to ICC': India's Batting Coach Vikram Rathour Criticises Pitch Maintenance Measures in Florida
The groundsmen were hard at work throughout the duration, trying their best to salvage the game to no avail. Yet, a major question that arose in the midst of it all, was the choice of preserving the pitch, which was not fully covered.

Another day in Florida, another match washed out due to rain. It was India this time around, who were deprived of their opportunity to have one last run in the USA pitches, against Canada in their last group stage match on Saturday.

In yet another disappointing turn of events, the rains took away yet another anticipated showdown between two sides.

The toss was delayed multiple times and regular inspections of the pitch ensued time and time again. But, it wouldn’t yield any good news, as finally the umpires decided to just call off the encounter due to the consistently wet outfield.

The groundsmen were hard at work throughout the duration, trying their best to salvage the game to no avail. Yet, a major question that arose in the midst of it all, was the choice of preserving the pitch, which was not fully covered.

And the first to question the choice of action was none other than India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour, who also felt that ICC should tell fans why the whole ground here wasn’t covered.

“This question should be asked to the ICC people. I won’t be able to answer that. I don’t know the reason why it was not covered and why it didn’t have enough covers to cover the whole ground.

“If they would have covered it, definitely that would have helped. But now it’s not there and this is what we’ve got.”

India will get to face off against the likes of either Netherlands or Bangladesh in their second Super Eight match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on June 22.

But first, they will face Australia in their third Super Eight game at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on June 24.

The top two sides from two groups of the Super Eight will advance to the semifinals. The semi-finals will happen on June 26 and 27 in Guyana and Trinidad respectively, before the final happens in Barbados on June 29. If India makes it to the semi-finals, they will play at Guyana.
