Sanjay Manjrekar Slammed For Not Mentioning Virat Kohli’s Name In T20 World Cup Post
Fans were not pleased with former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar for ignoring Virat Kohli in his congratulatory tweets after India's win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared a congratulatory note after India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Manjrekar credited captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the monumental triumph, which ended India’s 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy. Once his post came to light, fans were quick to notice that there was no mention of Virat Kohli.

Kohli top-scored for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final by making 76 runs from 59 balls. For his super show with the bat, the former Indian captain won the Player of the Match award.

After India secured a seven-run win in the nail-biting final, Manjrekar tweeted, “Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid & Ajit Agarkar are your people with absolute integrity. So happy that they had something to show in the end! My heart goes out to them.”

In a subsequent post, the former India batter praised the bowlers for their dominant show throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. Highlighting the performances of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, Manjrekar wrote, “And not for the first time Indian bowlers won India the game. Take a bow Hardik, Axar, Arshdeep and the one and only Jasprit Bumrah.”

Once his posts surfaced on the internet, many fans criticised Sanjay Manjrekar for ignoring Virat Kohli’s name. One of them felt Manjrekar should “thank Kohli for carrying the team for over a decade.”

Another individual was visibly irked by Manjrekar’s behaviour and commented, “First he did not include Virat Kohli in his WC squad and now where the credit is due, he did not mention Virat’s name. What a hypocrite this person is. Virat Kohli was, is and will always remain a legend.”

A fan slammed Sanjay Manjrekar for his biased opinion and wrote, “Learn to give credit where it is due. If you are a true cricketer and unbiased, applauding Kohli for his stellar performance is the least you could have done.”

Kohli was not able to showcase his A-game in the group stage and Super 8 matches of the T20 World Cup, but he found his rhythm back when the team needed him the most. He capped off the T20 World Cup 2024 journey by scoring 151 runs in eight innings.
