IPL 2024 Playoffs Race After CSK vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants Replace Chennai Super Kings at 4th Spot in Points Table
With their win today, Lucknow Super Giants replaced Chennai Super Kings in the fourth spot as the teams traded places in the points table.

Marcus Stoinis smashed an outstanding century to trump Ruturaj Gaikwad’s effort as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

Stoinis’ innings was in direct contrast to the silken smooth knock of Gaikwad. Stoinis (124, 63b, 13×4, 6×6) led the Lucknow Super Giants chase to end up scoring at 213/4. Gaikwad (108, 60b, 12×4, 3×6) and Shivam Dube (66, 27b, 3×4, 7×6) had added 104 runs for the fourth-wicket stand to power the Chennai Super Kings to a competitive 210/4.

With the win, Lucknow handed Chennai their first home defeat of the season. This is also the highest successful chase at this venue. Thus, LSG also scored a rare back-to-back home and away win over Chennai as they had won the match at Ekana Stadium a few days back.

Stoinis remained unbeaten 124 off 63 balls with 13 fours and six sixes which is the highest individual score in IPL in a run-chase. Earlier, skipper Gaikwad led from the front with a superb 60-ball unbeaten 108 as Chennai Super Kings posted a challenging 210 for 4 . Gaikwad’s knock, his second IPL hundred, was studded with 12 fours and three sixes. Shivam Dube muscled his way to a 27-ball-66, hitting seven sixes. For LSG, Matt Henry took one wicket for 28 runs.
