New Delhi: If you want to stay on board, stay trim. This is what Air India has told its in-flight crew. With the competition getting stiffer, Air India has decided it wants to lose its extra baggage.
India?s national carrier is not ready to carry the extra weight ? at least not the weight of its staff. They've given all those serving on flights two months to slim down.
And if after that time, people fail to lose weight, they will get transferred to ground duty.
GM Public Relations, Air India, S Venkat says, "We give our crew an allowance to go to the gym. In two months time, they cannot get into shape they'll have to do ground duties. This is their punishment."
In international and private airlines, fitness and appearance of the staff is an extremely important part of the job. So much so, that Kingfisher Airlines even had a beauty contest to chose their airhostesses.
However, Air India says that competition is not the only reason for the ultimatum they have handed to their crew. It wants its cabin crew to keep fit so in case there's an emergency the crew can help out.
