TOI slips to 11th spot, while The Hindu has displaced HT as the second most widely read English daily.

New Delhi: The latest National Readership Survey has thrown up a few surprises.

Although Dainik Jagran retains its position as India's most widely read newspaper, the biggest surprise is India's most widely circulated daily is not among the top 10 dailies. The Times of India has fallen to No 11 from number nine.

And Tamil daily, Dinakaran has moved to No 8 from No 39 last year. Among English dailies, The Hindu has displaced The Hindustan Times as the second most widely read English daily.

"Dinakaran has made it to the top 10 list because of aggressive pricing of 30 paise per copy and its marketing tie up with Sun TV", said AC Nielsen ORG MARG Client Service Director N D Badrinath.

On an average, four new magazines were launched every month over the past two years. But NRS indicates that overall, magazines have lost 12 per cent of their reach.
