The Railway Minister said that freight rates were on the higher side and were cross-subsidising passenger fare.
New Delhi: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi increased passenger fares across all class on Wednesday while presenting the Railway Budget in Parliament. Passenger fares have been hiked for the first time since 2002 as Trivedi claimed that Railway finances were very bad.
Before announcing the fare hike, the Railway Minister said that freight rates were on the higher side and were cross-subsidising passenger fare.
