New Delhi: Under pressure to come clean, Government says Jet-Sahara deal did not fail due to procedural delays.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patul has refuted Jet Airways' allegation that policy delays on the Government's part led to the failure of the Jet-Sahara deal.
Jet Airways had said earlier that the deal failed because the Government was not clear about its policy on mergers and acquisitions.
Patel says the Government policy was in place in May itself and that it does not need to put together new policy just for this specific deal.
"The policy cannot be tailor-made to suit any particular airline. Government is very clear on this issue. The policy that is broadly in place is based on best international models and practices," he added.
In a stern statement, Patel said if someone had any grievances, "they are free to approach the Government for clarifications. But the Government is not answerable to anyone.”
"Policies are not made to suit any particular airline. If someone is dissatisfied, we cannot be held responsible", the Minister said, adding that policies were made for the entire aviation sector.
Jet however is now saying that they never blamed anybody for the failure of the deal, not Sahara and not the Government.
Meanwhile, Air Sahara on Wednesday filed a caveat in the Supreme Court with a view to prevent Jet Airways from getting an ex-parte order on its transfer petition, which is likely to be filed on Wednesday.
