11th five year plan.
New Delhi: The Centre will invest Rs 50,000 crore for the development of transport infrastructure in the Northeast under the 11th Five-Year Plan.
The Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) took the decision under the 10-point Shillong statement, in the second sectoral summit of the North Eastern Council last week, official sources said on Tuesday
The statement asserted the need for improvement of surface transport service in the region for economic development and opening of International trade centres at different points along the external frontiers of Northeast.
The Ministry of DoNER, NEC and the Northeastern states would collaborate in formulating a regional master plan for developing the road sector in the region as part of NEC's Vision 2020.
The Declaration has, however, resolved to seek an increased fund allocation of Rs 50,000 crore for the development of surface transport in the 11th Five-Year Plan, sources said, adding that it suggested the states to emulate Mizoram, which has drafted the Mizoram Road Fund bill.
