During her break, she grabbed an apple and took a bite of it. She was called in for a shot and she kept the apple aside. A person, who was at the shoot, noticed her bitten apple and ran away with it. Later, he auctioned off the bitten apple. There are many speculations regarding the price at which it was sold. While some media reports claim it was sold at Rs 2, another claimed it was sold for almost Rs 200. Another media report claimed that the bitten apple fetched Rs 26,000. Other reports suggest it was sold for Rs 1 lakh. No confirmation has ever been received regarding this news.

Silk Smitha was born as Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati to a Telugu family. She adopted her screen name, Silk Smitha, after she gained an immense reputation and fame with her character Silk in her debut movie Vandichakkaram. She garnered much acclaim with her debut performance in the movie; but throughout her career she was typecasted to similar roles.

Soon, her hard work paved the way for success. She soon gained star status in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi film industry as well. Her dance numbers in films like Amaran and Halli Meshtru (in Kannada) were loved by fans and also celebrated at the box office. In her career, one of her most notable works is Moondram Pirai by Balu Mahendra, which was remade in Hindi and titled Sadma. Both the movies featured Kamal Haasan, Silk Smitha and Sridevi in key roles.
