RCB youngster Shreyanka Patil produced a brilliant bit of fielding during her side’s WPL 2024 game against Mumbai Indians on Saturday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Patil, who was positioned at deep, stopped the ball which was bound beyond the ropes, off Hayley Matthew’s willow, and ensured that it did not save her side valuable runs.

MI won the toss and opted to bowl first as they troubled RCB on their home turf throughout the day as they picked up wickets at regular intervals.

Smriti Mandhana was the firts to go as she fell victim to Issy WOny. MI’s stand-in skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, who took the place of injured Harmanpreet Kaur. Sciver-Brunt opened her wickets tally as she got rid of S Meghana shortly after.

Shaika Ishaque picked up her first wicket of the ongoing season of the WPL as she sent Sophie Devine back to the hut to leave RCB reeling at 33/3 in the powerplay.

Richa Ghosh, who has been in good form recently couldn’t get going as she was sent back to the dugout for 7 runs by Pooja Vastrakar before the Indian bowler dismissed Sophie Molineux for 12. Ellyse Perry was supported by Georgia Wareham, who added 27 runs before being scalped by Sciver-Brunt.

Perry was the lone ranger for RCB as she made an unbeaten 44 runs to take RCB to 132 runs.

Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews got MI off to an explosive start as they ripped into RCB bowlers taking Renuka Thakur to the cleaners. Bhatia added 37 runs in quick fashion before falling to Devine.

Matthews added 26 runs, while Sciver-Brunt put up 27 runs before being dismissed by Patil and Wareham respectively.

Amelia Kerr made an unbeaten 40-run knock off 24 balls, while Pooja Vastrakar added 8 to polish off the chase with 7 wickets and 29 deliveries to spare as MI climbed to the top of the table with 6 points.
