Porsche Issues Global Recall For Taycan Models Over Brake Safety Concerns

Porsche has ordered a global recall for all Taycan cars produced since its debut in 2020, as per Autocar India.

The decision was taken after the company identified a breaking issue in some vehicles. However, the German carmaker has not revealed the exact number of vehicles affected globally.

Porsche has detected a problem with the front brake hoses in the Taycan models, which in some cases have developed cracks, resulting in fluid leakage. This leakage lowers brake pressure and decreases braking performance.

“We conducted some internal quality analysis and determined that failures can occur in certain special cases. Safety is our top priority, so we decided to optimise the brake hoses on the front axle and planned a new design,” said Kevin Giek, Taycan project manager to Autocar UK.

“We are very certain that we won’t see this failure anymore because we redesigned the hoses with new length, braking points, and a new kinematic,” he added.

How To Detect The Issue?

• Vehicles that develop the issue will show a warning light on the dashboard.
• In case if red light appears, the driver should immediately stop using the vehicle and contact the Porsche customer service for instant help.
• If you see indications like ‘brake fluid low’ or ‘PSM failure’ this means the vehicle needs servicing.
• Cars with no warning signs on the dashboard are safe to drive.

How To Resolve The Issue?

As per Autocar India, the German carmaker will notify the owners and invite them to bring their cars to dealerships to get the replacement hose installed. There will be no replacement charge for the hose and also will not affect the warranty. The replacement work will take around 2 hours.

Porsche plans to replace the component to improve the front brake hoses’ bending radius, significantly reducing the strain and risk of future cracking.

As per the company, only 1 percent of all Taycan models sold globally have identified this issue.

“The first complaints we received made us wonder ‘what might have happened?’ So we conducted an in-depth quality analysis on a few of the cases. We are not at the point where we can say that only one market or a small number is affected, therefore we decided to make a new, strong design even though it’s not needed,” said Geik as per Autocar India.

Over 1.5 lakh Taycan cars have been sold by Porsche worldwide. It is priced at Rs 1.89 crore (ex-showroom).
