British luxury automotive manufacturer McLaren has made a grand entrance into the Indian market with the launch of its latest supercar, the 750S.
Positioned as the successor to the acclaimed 720S, this new model comes with a starting price of Rs. 5.91 crore (ex-showroom) and is available in both Coupe and Spider variants.
McLaren claims the 750S to be their lightest and most powerful series-production car yet, showcasing advancements in weight-saving, performance, and aerodynamics over its predecessor, as reported by Autocar.
McLaren 750S: Power and Performance
Under the hood, the 750S features the same M840T engine found in the 720S but with significant enhancements. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo, flat-plane V8 now produces 750 bhp and 800Nm of torque, without relying on electrical assist from either an electric turbo or a hybrid battery setup.
Notable improvements include a newly calibrated power delivery system, a new triple-layer head gasket, twin fuel pumps, higher-pressure turbos, lighter pistons, and a standard-fit sports exhaust reminiscent of the McLaren P1.
The weight loss, power boost and shorter final drive ratio contribute to the 750S accelerating 10 percent faster than the 720S across the board.
It achieves a remarkable 0-100kph in just 2.8 seconds and takes only 4.4 seconds more to reach 200kph.
While the top speed is slightly down at 331kph, the 750S boasts a segment-leading power-to-weight ratio of 587 bhp per tonne, saving 30 kg over its predecessor.
McLaren 750S: Chassis and Aerodynamics
The chassis of the 750S undergoes extensive revisions, including a 6mm increase in front track, a faster steering rack, lighter springs, and an upgraded version of McLaren’s Proactive Chassis Control system. These changes contribute to improved handling, roll control and rolling refinement.
The aerodynamics receive a makeover with a new front bumper, larger air intakes, slim LED headlights, and a noticeably larger active rear wing, which enhances both downforce and stopping performance.
McLaren 750S: Cockpit and Technology
As an evolution of the 720S, the 750S maintains a familiar aesthetic with subtle visual revisions. The cockpit, however, undergoes a significant overhaul to minimize distractions and enhance the driver-road connection. The instrument display now moves with the steering column for optimized visibility, and the drive mode selector controls are conveniently located on the side of the binnacle. The addition of a suspension lift function, accessible through a dashboard button, is a crucial feature for the Indian market.
The 750S promises tangible benefits in terms of functionality, with a higher definition and more responsive infotainment screen, improved speech recognition for in-car commands, and a clearer park-assist camera. Standard features now include Apple CarPlay and a wireless charger, adding to the overall luxury and convenience of the driving experience.
