Hyundai has launched the latest generation of their popular luxury sedan Elantra at starting price of Rs 12.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The introductory prices will be revised by the company in December 2016.
Currently, in its 6th generation, the Elantra sports Hyundai's Fluidic 2.0 design language. The biggest change on the exterior is the massive angular front grille with chrome accents, along with aggressively styled headlamps and 'boomerang' shaped daytime running lights. The side profile too sports strong lines to give the car a sporty stance and a new designed tail lamps is similar to the one on current generation i20.
The new Elantra will be available with two engine options - a 2 litre petrol and a 1.6 litre VGT CRDi diesel engine. These engines will be available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The petrol engine delivers 152 PS of power and 192nm of torque and the diesel engine will have an output of 128 PS and 260 nm of torque. The efficiency claimed by Hyundai is around 15 km/l for petrol and 22.5 km/l for diesel with Manual transmission and 18 km/l with automatic transmission.
In terms of electronics, the car comes with reverse parking camera with sensors, ESC, Vehicle stability management, Hill Start Assist and Dual airbags with ABS and EBD for safety. The top variant will have 6 airbags.
The Elantra mainly competes with the likes of Skoda Octavia, which too recently got a revamp in design, Volkswagen's Jetta and Toyota's Altis. The company is already experiencing success with models like the Hyundai Creta. As of now, we will have to wait and find out how the car is accepted by the Indian audience over time.
