Gambling is essentially a game of chance with no guarantees of winning. However, it seems that having divine intervention can greatly enhance one’s earning potential. This belief has led a series of casinos in Zimbabwe, South Africa, to ban a man who claims to be a prophet from entering their premises.
Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa has reportedly been barred from nearly every casino in the area. Casino operators fear that, as God’s purported chosen gambler, he could potentially cause significant financial losses for their establishments and put them out of business.
The holy man, who is the leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect, managed to win Rs 25 lakh at a casino and boldly claimed that the winning numbers had been foretold to him through a vision from God himself. But his celebration was cut short when the owner of other casinos in Zimbabwe asked him to stay away due to fear. They believe Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa has an ‘unfair advantage’ in the form of visions from God.
Archbishop Mutumwa, who shares videos of his religious services on YouTube, where he has 1.3k subscribers, believes the ban is entirely unjust and is incredulous that his run of luck has been abruptly ended. The archbishop also took a dig at critics of gambling. “God works in mysterious ways. This win was not about luck, but a test of faith,” he said. “I prayed for guidance and the Lord provided the numbers through a vision. Isn’t it a blessing to use these winnings to uplift my congregation?”
Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa stated that he used the winnings to pay school fees for some of his church members and to provide start-up funds for businesses. A local casino manager explained that betting establishments often restrict or close the accounts of individuals who win frequently. It is not yet clear whether Mutumwa will pursue legal action against the casinos’ decision.
