You must have heard of many incidents of medical negligence in our country. Have you ever heard of something similar happening in a country like the US? No right? But it is true. Despite all efforts, there are moments in life which are written in our fate. No matter how much wealth and resources a person can have, unexpected incidents can still bring havoc to life making it miserable and challenging. Similarly, this is the story of a 72-year-old man who is on the verge of dying, after coming to the hospital for his appendix operation. The name of the man is George. He went to the hospital for his surgery in the appendix, but the doctors did something else that made his life extremely miserable and challenging.
According to a report, this incident occurred on December 6, 2022 at the University of Washington Medical centre. George, who is a resident of Lake Forest Park, was suffering from pain in his lower abdomen. The doctors found out that he is suffering from appendicitis and needs a small surgery, but the operation turned his life upside down and it became a painful story for him.
The man claimed that he was in immense pain when he woke up, even after taking medicines. The reason for this was the doctors had cut out and removed the large intestine from his stomach instead of the appendix.
After two days, a CT scan revealed that his appendix was still present in his stomach. Because of the cutting and taking out of the large intestine from the person’s stomach, it caused sepsis and infection. Through a second surgery, his appendix was removed later and the infection was controlled. George was admitted in the hospital for 53 days and went through extra 4 surgeries. Due to this, he lost his weight, suffered from amnesia and stress and had immense pain.
Finally, the matter reached the court and compensation was demanded for such negligence by the doctors.
