A man from Gurugram recently recounted a 2021 incident involving his friend who fell victim to a scam, losing Rs. 42,000 and a laptop after a woman falsely accused him of alleged harassment. Sharing screenshots and excerpts on ‘X’, Sumit detailed the harrowing experience, describing it as a complete “rollercoaster ride”.
It all began when an unidentified woman, using the alias Shikha, initiated contact with his friend via WhatsApp, as evidenced in the screenshots. Despite his friend denying any interaction on Tinder or sharing his phone number, Shikha persisted with personal inquiries about his relationship status, address, and birthplace. The friend, like many others, felt comfortable chatting with her and sharing details.
This happened in 2021. This story is a roller coaster ride! pic.twitter.com/oZAoK18H4n— Sumit (@shriramjibhakt) April 30, 2024
Their meetings began, with the friend developing an interest in Shikha. They even met several times at his place, and everything seemed fine until the seventh day.
Sumit shared how his friend thought “he succeeded in life” when they (Shikha and the friend) planned to spend a night together at his flat. However, chaos ensued when Shikha started receiving calls from a man she claimed was her brother, with whom she lived in Delhi.

Despite the friend’s insistence that she leave to avoid her brother finding out about them, Shikha ignored the advice. Shortly after, a few men knocked on the friend’s door. Shikha then claimed it was her brother and demanded he open the door, threatening to break it down otherwise.
When the friend opened the door, four men entered the flat with sticks and a pistol, accusing him of purportedly raping their sister. They confiscated his phone, turned it off, and emptied his bank account, allegedly around Rs. 42,000. They also took his laptop and two beer bottles.
However, Sumit, growing suspicious after failing to reach his friend, went to his flat. He quickly called the emergency number 112. “I entered, and they also started demanding money from me. I told them I had already called 112 and shared the location.” This action saved Sumit, as the men, wearing masks due to the new COVID scare, fled the scene.
He then explained how a 112-patrolling van arrived soon after, but they refused to file an FIR.
For those who think scripted! Here is the receipt of the complaint on 112 , we didn’t file FIR for many reasons! pic.twitter.com/QXUmqEA9lw— Sumit (@shriramjibhakt) April 30, 2024
The story has since gone viral on ‘X’, with people reacting and thanking him for alerting others about such scams.
