'KKR Under Gambhir Hits Different': Memes Galore As Sunil Narine Heroics Leave DC Dumbstruck

Kolkata Knight Riders have kicked off the IPL 2024 season with a bang, remaining undefeated after two thrilling victories. And it’s Gautam Gambhir who has emerged as the beacon of their success. The former skipper, who steered the franchise to two IPL triumphs, has returned to his roots as a mentor and implemented some strategic changes in the lineup. Notably, Sunil Narine’s promotion to the opening slot alongside Philip Salt has proved to be a masterstroke so far, sparking brilliance for the two-time champions.

This strategic shift was put to the test in their recent showdown against the Delhi Capitals, where Narine unleashed a barrage of explosive strokes, providing KKR with a dream start. His spectacular knock of 85 runs off 39 balls, adorned with 7 fours and 7 sixes, propelled KKR past the 160-run mark before the 12th over.

And witnessing Narine’s resurgence from a challenging phase over the last couple of seasons, KKR fans began showering praise on mentor Gambhir for injecting fresh vigour into the team and for his shrewdness in reviving the seasoned all-rounder’s role at the top of the order.

On social media, memes have surfaced portraying the stark contrast between KKR’s performances with and without Gambhir, further emphasising his pivotal role. Previously, Gambhir served as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants until 2022 before being entrusted with the mentorship of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2024 IPL season.

Meanwhile, the match in Visakhapatnam was a spectacle of pure carnage, with two hours of relentless ball-smashing and agony for the Delhi Capitals bowlers. Narine’s blitzkrieg, complemented by Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s fifty, Russell’s power-packed innings, and Rinku Singh’s onslaught, almost saw KKR overtake Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mammoth total of 277. However, Kolkata settled for the second-highest IPL total ever (272), largely due to Ishant Sharma’s tight death bowling.

But Delhi found themselves unable to match the blistering pace set by KKR. Despite Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs notching fifties, Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora’s exceptional bowling display steered Kolkata to a resounding victory, winning the match by a staggering margin of 106 runs.
