Generally, every temple follows certain rules to worship the deity. From entry to aarti, temples have a fixed time for everything. But there is one particular temple in India that does not allow visitors at night. This temple is in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura. Neither men nor women are allowed to go to this temple at night. It is built on a dune. However, what’s interesting is that the Teela is reportedly about 550 years old at least.
As per the beliefs, if someone stays overnight in this temple, then something untoward happens to them. It has been reported that strange sounds have been heard at night on this Teela. Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura is home to ancient temples and Teelas. There are five such Teela in Mathura which are believed to have been present here since the Krishna era. Each of these Teela has its uniqueness. One such Teela is Naag Teela at Bangali Ghat, Uttar Pradesh.
The Naag Teela is built opposite Subhash Inter College, Mathura. The history of the place is rooted in the Naga dynasty. There is one Radha-Krishna temple situated in the courtyard of the Teela. The temple is believed to be hundreds of years old.
The temple has its own unique identity. In an interview with Local18, the temple priest shared that the temple is ancient and that, ever since it was built, there has been a belief that no visitors can stay in the temple after evening. The priest of the temple said that whoever stayed in the temple, something untoward happened to the person. There have been various accounts of people hearing strange sounds coming from all around the Teela.
As per the priest, saints and sages used to do penance here on the Naag Teela. The place is considered holy and if men or women stay back here at night, then he believes that the prestige of Teela is broken. Reportedly, since the time of Lord Krishna, it is forbidden for anyone to stay back at the Teela at night.
