In Dramatic Video, Ice Cream Truck Gets Carried Away By Tide At UK Beach
Richard Higman, who captured footage of the event, informed that the truck driver was selling ice cream to beachgoers before the vehicle washed away.

On a beach in Cornwall, UK, a rising tide swept an ice cream van out to sea. On Sunday, the Kelly Whip ice cream truck, parked on the beach at Harlyn Bay, was pulled into the water. A large crowd stepped into the waters in an attempt to save the van, but their efforts were in vain. A rescue truck was dispatched to the location, and after the tide receded, the van was successfully hauled to safety.

The driver was not in the car at the time and was found to be safe, the Coast Guard verified to The Guardian. Richard Higman, who captured footage of the event, told Sky News that the truck had been selling ice cream to beachgoers before being washed away.

He said that as the tide overtook the vehicle and flooded it, the driver had reportedly off-loaded the ice cream. “A load of people on the beach got a rope and tried pulling it and got nowhere.”

He continued by saying that a farmer used his tractor to descend the beach, attach a rope to it and pull it up the shore when the tide was out.

The entire occurrence, according to witness Abi Fisk, was “very strange” and “come out of an end of the world film,” she told The Metro.

According to her, the ice cream van’s driver went all the way to the lowest point of low tide by driving down the beach. Fisk went on to say that the beach was crowded since it was a lovely day and he most likely wanted the business.

“But then the tide started coming in, and he couldn’t drive off.”

She also said that although other individuals in a 4×4 in the parking lot attempted to lift him out, the front tyre had gone into the sand.

Fisk told the news source that everyone was amazed as they stood there. “Even the surfers started surfing past the van.”

An HM Coastguard spokesperson told the Metro that the owner of the van had arranged for a vehicle recovery at about 9:45 when the level of the water was appropriate for the vehicle to be retrieved.

In a statement, they claimed that the ice cream van that washed up in Cornwall’s Harlyn Bay by the tide was reported to HM Coastguard.

The news site also stated that the Padstow Coastguard Rescue Team and RNLI Lifeguards were dispatched to make sure everyone involved was safe.
