Many people around the world take basic healthcare facilities for granted. However, in a remote village in Nepal, basic healthcare facilities and electricity are considered a luxury. Due to the lack of government initiative and difficult terrain, many villages have incomplete healthcare centres. Recently, Beast Philanthropy, the charitable arm of MrBeast channel took it upon themselves to renovate and power a hospital in one such village. In the video, MrBeast aka Jimmy Donaldson, explained that without electricity the doctors in the hospital had to perform emergency procedures using flashlights. The lack of proper equipment also means that people have to make a 7-hour trip to the nearest health centre with facilities.
Beast Philanthropy worked with non-profits GivePower and The Green Program on this project as they fitted the hospital with solar power panels and installed indigenously made baby warming machines that can save the lives of newborns. These infant warming machines are called Nyano Nani which means “Warm Baby" in Nepali. They are developed by Sanjay, a local engineer who works with GivePower. The Beast Philanthropy also bought 10 Nyano Nani machines from Sanjay and his team that they aim to install in different local health centres.
Beast Philanthropy shared a 10-minute video, titled “We powered a mountain", that documented how the hospital was renovated after days of hard work. The video already has over 25 lakh likes since it was shared on April 14.
Commenting on it, a YouTube user wrote, “It’s always amazing to see how happy these struggling communities are. They face so many hardships day in and day out, but everyone is always smiling. If anyone deserves the help of Beast Philanthropy, it’s those he has helped and will continue to help in the future. Thank you, Jimmy, Darren, the rest of the Beast Philanthropy team, and all other volunteer groups involved for helping these people."
A surgical assistant highlighted the importance of the “Nyano Nani" machines and wrote, “Those infant warmers are critical equipment for helping an infant survive while being treated in a hospital setting since infants lack the ability to regulate their own body temperature. As a surgical assistant, I always dreaded having to work with them because they’re so dang hot but incredibly necessary. What an incredible gift that was! Thanks for everything that you do Jimmy and the support team."
Another person remarked, “I really wish these videos were much longer. The potential to make these a true short doc is so high. I would love to learn more about the people and the community and how you provided power."
