Devotees Worship And Put Tilak On Crocodile Captured In Kanpur - WATCH
The presence of the crocodile caused alarm among the locals, prompting the forest department to intervene and capture the reptile from the Bhairav Ghat.

A terrifying incident recently happened at the ghats of the Ganga River in Kanpur, as locals discovered a crocodile lurking in the holy waters where devotees usually take sacred dips. The presence of the reptile caused alarm among the local residents, prompting the forest department to intervene and capture it from the Bhairav Ghat. Despite their efforts, the department couldn’t catch the crocodile. However, local fishermen took matters into their own hands and successfully caught the reptile in their net at the Civil Lines Hospital Ghat. Later, they transported it to a nearby temple, where the creature was tied with a rope. Soon after the news of the unusual guest’s arrival spread across the city, people gathered in the area to witness the crocodile.

People even started worshiping and taking selfies with the captured reptile, turning an alarming situation into a unique and unexpected attraction. In an unexpected turn of events, a video shared by an anonymous user on X shows locals putting incense sticks near the mouth of the crocodile and tilak on its head. As per a Jagran report, the same crocodile was spotted multiple times at Ranighat and Bhairav Ghat in recent days, causing worry among visitors at the ghats. Previous attempts by the Forest Department to capture the crocodile were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, after locals saw the crocodile was captured at the ghat, they quickly informed the police, who in turn, called the forest department, urging them to relocate the captured crocodile to its natural habitat. However, despite the notification, the forest department reportedly did not arrive at the scene for two hours, as reported by Free Press Journal. Later, when the officers arrived on site, they took the reptile into their custody and made arrangements to relocate the crocodile on the other side of the ghat.

Fortunately, no injuries or attacks were reported. However, an earlier incident involved children of local boatmen playing cricket at the Hospital Ghat. While playing, they heard troubled barking from a group of dogs and discovered a large crocodile was attempting to catch them. Acting quickly, the brave group of boys successfully rescued the dogs from the danger.

While crocodile sightings in the Ganga near populated areas are not common, the river itself is home to various crocodile species. As per the National Mission for Clean Ganga, the species include the gharial and the mugger crocodile.
