19 years after the first season of the singing reality show Indian Idol, Amit Sana has levelled massive allegations against the channel. In a recent interview, Amit claimed that his voting lines were ‘blocked’ by the channel ahead of the finale. While Amit was the runner up of Indian Idol 1, Abhijeet Sawant was the winner of the show.
Amit Sana was speaking to Siddharth Kannan recently when he mentioned that things changed for Abhijeet Sawant after Shilpa Shetty praised his smile in one of the episodes. “A lot of things changed after that. He was taken seriously after that,” he said and then accused the makers of being biased towards Abhijeet. “My voting lines got blocked out two days before the last day. It doesn’t get blocked on its own,” he added.
Amit went on to say that there was ‘chatter’ about some ‘political influence’ behind Abhijeet Sawant’s victory. “A lot of people say that there was some political influence involved during that period of time but that’s all just heresy. I haven’t researched it on my own,” he said. However, Amit apologised to Abhijeet for bringing this matter up after nearly two decades. He also said that the two still share a warm relationship even today.
While Amit was the first runner-up of the show, Rahul Vaidya was the second runner-up. During the interaction, Amit also talked about his and revealed that he was intimidated by Rahul on Indian Idol. “We used to fight a bit during the show. He used to say things to instigate me,” Amit said but alleged that he was ‘disrespectful’ towards the crew on the sets. “From what I understand, he likes to accumulate power. He has always been with people who are very powerful. He has great connections in the political circuit,” Amit said.
Indian Idol 1 aired in 2004. Currently, the 14th season of the show is underway.
