The Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp has officially rolled out its new voice chats feature in groups that lets users start voice calls without disturbing everyone in the group. This feature is available to everyone after updating to the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android.
With this feature, the instant messaging app is making it easier for users to communicate in their group chats, introducing a new way to start voice calls by sending silent push notifications. The feature is available for those WhatsApp groups with 33 to 128 members.
Before, in WhatsApp group chats, you could only start a voice call that rang every member, and if no one joined, the call didn’t happen. Now, with voice chats, you can start one in a group even if no one joins initially. Users are quietly prompted to join through a silent push notification.
Also, anyone can join voice chats in their groups at any time and start speaking, without ringing everyone else in the group chat. If the voice chat remains empty for 60 minutes, it will be automatically ended, but anyone can still start a new voice chat at any time.
Group Members not engaged in the voice chat can view the active participants in the call through the chat header and the Calls tab. The voice chat feature for large groups is available after installing the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS from the App Store and WhatsApp for Android from the Google Play Store.
Here’s How To Use WhatsApp Voice Chats
– Open WhatsApp on Android or iOS devices.
– Now, open the group chat where you want to begin the voice chat.
– Tap the phone icon located in the top right corner of the screen.
– Select “Start Voice Chat.”
– Group members will receive a push notification, inviting them to join the voice chat.
Voice chats offer a significant advantage as they allow calls to begin without ringing each member’s phone in the group.
