New Delhi: Buying a new pair of shoes for a growing child is annoying and most of times either the child outgrows them within a few months or the shoe doesn't fit right in the first place. What if you could have a pair that adjusted itself to keep up with growing kids?
The Shoe That Grows is the solution to this issue that bothers every parent. It is a patented design of an innovative shoe that adjusts and expands up to five sizes and lasts at least 5 years.
The idea for creating this innovative product was born when founder and executive director Kenton Lee noticed a little girl in Kenya wearing shoes that were way too small for her feet, which helped base the concept of The Shoe That Grows.
Developed in part by a shoe development company in the Northwest called Proof of Concept, the shoe comes in two sizes- small and large, and each size grows and expands up to five sizes. The small size is for kids from kindergarten to 4th grade while the large size is for children from grade 5 to grade 9.
It is made with simple materials - leather, compressed rubber, and snaps. It is also easy to transport and you can fit about 50 pairs of shoes in a regular suitcase that weighs under 50 pounds. Cost of the shoe is $30 for one pair and $25 each if you order 5 pairs and $20 for a 10 pair order.
The Shoe That Grows also encourages voluntary donators to fill a duffle with 50 pairs of shoes which could be distributed through its partner organizations to kids who can't afford to buy them.
