New Delhi: Samsung is expected to unveil a variant of the upcoming Galaxy S6 smartphone with a three-sided 'spill' display - one that will use the front as well as both the right and left sides of the phone - at its Galaxy Unpacked event on March 1, says a Bloomberg report.

Samsung's earlier take at the side display was seen in its Galaxy Note Edge smartphone that featured a main display curving around the right edge of the phone to create a side display for notifications and one-tap access to apps, headlines and tasks. The South Korean electronics giant has since then being speculated to introduce a curved display in its next-gen Galaxy S smartphone.

With the Note Edge, Samsung tried to offer a practical use of curvature, making the sides more functional for certain apps like flashlight and stopwatch, akin to what Apple offers in the iPhone's Control Center with a swipe up from the bottom.

According to sources, Samsung is likely to unveil two versions of its next-gen Galaxy S smartphone - both with metal bodies.

The upcoming Galaxy S6 is expected to come with a 5.1-inch screen, fingerprint sensor, 4GB of RAM, and a 20-megapixel camera. The Galaxy S6 is likely to be be launched in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage variants.

A recent Bloomberg report, citing unidentified sources, has already said that Samsung will not use Qualcomm's processors for the next version of the flagship Galaxy S smartphone as the new Snapdragon 810 chip found to be overheating during Samsung's testing.

With its slumping sales in the smartphone market, the curved screen is touted to help rekindle buyer-interest in Samsung smartphones.

Analysts say Samsung is under immense pressure to hang on to its market share, with a lot resting on the launch of its next flagship Galaxy S6 high-end smartphone due around March. It will need to ensure that the phone does not disappoint in order to keep its global market share from slipping further.
