Gurgaon: With the Moto X Force, Motorola promises to seal one of the biggest chinks in the smartphone armour - the fragile screen. The phone, which Motorola claims has the world's first shatterproof display, has been launched for the Indian market at a price of Rs 49,999 and will be available on Flipkart, Amazon and also in stores such as Croma and Spice. The phone goes on sale from February 8.

The phone will be available in two storage versions in India - 32 GB and 64 GB - and three colour variants. While the Rs 49,999 price tag is for the 32 GB variant, the 64 GB version is priced at Rs 53,999. IBNLive was the first to reveal the Moto X Force India launch plans and the price.

The Moto X Force is be the most premium Motorola phone in the Indian market since its re-entry to the Indian market in February 2014 and the company has been on quite a roll since then.

The Moto X Force uses the Moto ShatterShield display technology, which is said to be an integrated system consisting of five layers designed from materials that absorb shock from impact and are guaranteed not to shatter.

Motorola has replaced glass with various forms of plastic to make screen shatterproof. Most leading phones usually use chemically strengthened glass. But that still being glass can crack if it hits a hard surface with enough force.

The X Force features a 5.4-inch Quad HD display, 21 megapixel rear camera, and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Under the hood is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 with 2.0 GHz octa-core CPUs. The phone supports a microSD card of up to 2 TB.

The phone further includes TurboPower charging, which the company claims can give users up to 13 hours of power in just 15 minutes. It is said to give users up to 48 hours of battery life on a single charge. The bigger 3760 mAh battery does make the device thicker than most other phones.

The phone is being sold in the US by the name of the Droid Turbo 2, and has been launched as the Moto X Force in India and other international markets.

Moto X Force profile

"The display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for four years from the original date of purchase; scratches or other damage to the protective lens is not covered by this warranty, but should always be in place to prevent scratches and other damage to the underlying components," says Motorola.

UnlockRiver dropped the Moto X Force from a height over 900 feet and not only did the phone's display survive the test, it was also functioning. There was, however, some damage to the phone's upper-left side, but it remained responsive to touch inputs even after the drop test.

SquareTrade, a company that provides extended-protection plans, ran a Range Rover SUV over the phone 10 times. The screen still didn't shatter, though parts of the display turned black.

Motorola has added backup touch capacitors so that the screen would still respond to touch even with some damage.
